Applying careful explanations and perceptions, Walker displays which elements contribute to the values of one's heritage and lifestyle; she demonstrates that these happen to be represented not by the own objects or mere looks, but by one's lifestyle and attitude. In " Everyday Use" Walker character the different factors of culture and heritage in the characters of Dee and the mom (the narrator). Dee is visible to represent a materialistic, complex, and contemporary way of life where culture and heritage should be valued simply for their " trendy-ness" and aesthetic charm. Mother on the other hand, represents an easy content way of life where traditions and traditions are valued for both equally its effectiveness as well as its personal value. The story plainly endorses Mama's simple, unsophisticated view of heritage, and shows disdain for Dee's materialistic link with her heritage. This is proven from the outset in the short account, we find out very quickly the mother (narrator) has inherited many traditions and practices from her ancestors.
